Then I Must be the Eggman

Alex: 'Noooo! No walrus says 'Koo-koo k'choo'.
Self-explanatory since we were playing 'Walrus Mommy and Baby'.

WALL-E Love

After only one viewing of WALL-E last night, Alex was smitten. In the morning, WALL-E and EVE were all he could talk about. 'EVE flies.', 'EVE is off'. 'I'm WALL-E. Beep! Beep!'

I wish I'd known just how smitten he was. For a little guy who was all about WALL-E this and WALL-E that all morning, he did not wish to see the film again. I showed it during breakfast and he did watch it just as riveted as he had the night before. Then I put it on again and he was objecting while it was playing, until I watched it with him and explained more of what was going on.

Seems he loved WALL-E so much that he couldn't take the scenes in which WALL-E gets damaged or battered. I asked him if the scene in which WALL-E gets an eye injury made him sad and he admitted 'Yes.' Then he said the movie was scary to WALL-E.

OK, no more WALL-E without Mommy or Daddy hugs nearby to reassure him that WALL-E will be OK in the end.

Vacation Plans

I played the video for Jason Mraz's song, 'I'm Yours'. The video was filmed in Hawaii and shows plenty of tropical settings. Alex danced off into his room, singing the song 'No more, no more' and emerged with his beach cabana. He informed me that he was going to the beach.

Bird Translation

This morning, Alex went to the window and heard birds chirping. He asked me 'What's that sound?' When I told him what it was, he said 'Oh a bird! He's saying 'Hi guys! How are you doing today?'.' I told him that that's exactly what the bird was saying.

Sitting in a Big Boy Chair

Alex agreed to sit in one of the grown-up chairs at the dining room table tonight. I told him I was proud of all the big boy things he's doing lately and all of the big boy things he did today. I pointed up at the photos of Alex on the dining room wall, picking out his newborn photos. I asked 'What happened to that baby up there? I had a baby! Where is he?' Alex responded "I'm right heee-ere."

Big Like Daddy

As an incentive for potty-training, I showed Alex some underwear his Abuela had sent him a long time ago. He was particularly thrilled over the pair that had 'Cars' character, Mater on the back. Today, he wished to wear the underwear and I had no success explaining that underwear is for big boys who use the potty. Since he was so thrilled about them, I slid them on over his diaper and he went giddy with excitement seeing them on himself. 'I'm big like Daddy!' he exclaimed.

He went the whole morning refusing to wear pants because they would cover the underwear.

On the plus side, he insisted on sitting on the potty this morning and telling me that he wanted Daddy to buy Pull-Ups today. Progress? Maybe? We'll see.

Treasure Time

Alex asked to see his treasures today. During a quiet time session in his Story Corner, he said 'Up there! Up there!' and finally, 'I want to see treasures. Treasures are in the dinosaur box.' So, I took down the dinosaur box and we reviewed his treasures: conch, crab and oyster shells from Great Captain Island, an acorn cap from a nearby park, a tiny conch from Harbor Island beach and, of course, his feathers from local birds. He's still holding onto those.

Housing Stimulus

After building a tower on his own, Alex declared "I built the tower. I'm the president."

Mouse On!

Alex has learned how to turn on his mouse and keyboard. A few days ago, he was reaching under his desk fidding with something. I didn't stop him because it was under his desk, where I thought there were no cables. Suddenly, he emerged, pointed out his lit-up mouse and said 'I turned it on! I turned the mouse on!' And he had. I can't type much more here. He's currently playing with his mouse.

I Want to be...Mommy!!!

Alex has been into imitiating everything I do lately.  That includes putting on some of my clothing (mostly my shoes, though).

In this case, there might be some cause for concern.

That's my [clean] underwear he's got on his head.

Brings a whole new twist to our old song "Pants on your head!"

Fun at the Roundhouse

Alex was thrilled that Santa got him a new roundhouse.  Now he can play with ALL of his Thomas trains at the same time - and have them talk in the roundhouse like they do on television.

Gathering up the gang at the roundhouse

Hmmmmm....Cooookies

Sometimes Daddy gives us a special treat.  Today, he baked some chocolate chip cookies.

Alex wasn't appreciative of the fact that they were done so close to his lunchtime.  Having to wait for them was just sheer torture.

But he really liked it when he finally got one!!

A New Strategy Involving the Story Corner

One priority for this year is to get Alex napping again.  He hasn't napped regularly since last October and it's been driving me batty.   So, armed with a dinosaur sleeping bag laid out in the Story Corner, I tried a new tactic.

I'd allow him to nap in the Story Corner in his "Comfy Cozy Bag" (we can't call it a "sleeping" bag) and allow him to have access to his books.  Surely this would work, right?

It met with less than stellar results. He started reading the books to us and said a casual "No" to an offer of Milky-milk.

[insert 6301.MOV here]

But he sure did like it!!!
